At last I can catch up on my emails!! Thank YOU so so much for doing such a great job with Brooke and Naghmeh. You really made their experience of Cape Town a hugely memorable one. They loved all your stories and facts and figures and were very very impressed and very appreciative of all your efforts in covering so much distance and history. I did drive them out to Spier and Vredenheim yesterday and they liked seeing the lions and cheetahs and the birds of prey etc. Thanks for that recommendation. In fact we had tea and cheesecake at Vredenheim too.

Look forward to catching up with you and Claire soon.

Journalists from across the world have hailed Cape Town as one of the friendliest and most beautiful cities, according to a report compiled by the city’s tourism agency.

Cape Town Tourism interacted with 750 international journalists during the 2010 FIFA World Cup, taking them on various tours to show the various faces of the city, said the organisation’s chief executive Mariette du Toit-Helmbold, who on Wednesday released the report.

Freelance journalist Vincent de Vries from the Netherlands said aspects from all over the world could be found in Cape Town .

“I have been everywhere from Mongolia to Vancouver, from Beijing to Rio de Janeiro, but my visit to Cape Town, during the World Cup Soccer, where I stayed for more than five weeks, ruined my ambition to see the whole world in 10 years. Why?

“Because I fell in love with the Mother City ! Now I don’t have to travel around the world anymore because Cape Town is the world.

“The V&A Waterfront is like Europe, the food is perfect like in Asia, the weather is fantastic like South-America, the people are as friendly as in Australia and the ambitions are as high as in the USA . I fell in love with this marvellous city and will return time and time again,” said de Vries.

Duncan Castles, who writes for the UK ‘s The Observer said he had travelled and lived in Europe, Asia, Africa and the Americas but had never been to a city that made such an immediate impression on him.

“The setting is breathtaking, and waking up each morning to Table Mountain ‘s flitting mood is a joy. Then you add in the friendliness of the people, the quality of the food and wine, and Cape Town ‘s sense of fun, and you have a truly special place,” said Castles.

Edward Lawrence of CBS TV Network in the US said he had initially had a “huge fear” of visiting South Africa because he had always heard that it was dangerous for American tourists, but that his urge to see the World Cup had made him throw caution to the wind.

“From the time I stepped off the plane in Cape Town , I felt welcomed by the people there – from the cab drivers to the Bed-and-Breakfast owners. I was able to take advantage of being a tourist in Cape Town and it was amazing. I saw and experienced so much and will definitely return to Cape Town ,” said Lawrence .

Zheng Daojin, Xinhua News Agency, Beijing , said Cape Town was “one of the most beautiful places on earth.

“My impression of the beauty, of the nature and the people of this city will stay with me forever. Thank you for the most fantastic time,” said Daojin.

Andres Kudacki a photographer and filmmaker from Argentina described the city as “amazing”.

“It is one of the most photogenic cities in the world and I was surprised and amazed during my stay here. From the Waterfront to Khayelitsha – I loved each part of Cape Town ,” said Kudacki.

British Airways announces Cape Town as passengers’ favourite destination

British Airways (BA) has announced that BA passengers worldwide have identified Cape Town as their favourite destination and that as of November 2010, British Airways will offer a second daily flight to Cape Town as popularity for the destination increases. This additional flight will be introduced ahead of the 2010 summer season. BA says its new Boeing 777 will be introduced for the route.

British Airway’s Commercial Manager in South Africa, Sue Botes, says demand for flights to Cape Town was on the rise before the FIFA World Cup™ tournament and the airline is accommodating the increasing demand by offering an additional daily flight, compared with the current single one.

Stellenbosch Cabs are really excellent as the area enjoys great long during heat hence sugar and alcohol etc.

Which Cabernet is it? Not serious if ou don’t reply just curious etc etc.

So thrilled to learn from you and us all here in South Africa, that you now consider our Wines to be on your list.

Any time any advice is required if I can possibly oblige it is an absolute pleasure.

So sorry you are not here as I have just discovered an absolute Gem of a wine.

It comes from another area Robertson and is called Koningsrivier (Dutch) Kings River Cab/Merlot Bordeaux type blend.

Special First Release & Limited Release with just 3000 bottles being done.

I have bought 5 cases (60 Bottles) as it will store shelf very well having Merlot in it etc.

The Price ?

A massive R50 per bottle (about 9 – 10 Can $ ??

Absolute steal it has of course all been snapped up.

I would just love to present you with a few bottles but just yet practical I guess.

The good news is that I will keep one or 2 bottles when we next meet so as to enjoy it together.

Our grandchild is fantastic thanks very much.

We will see her God willing this next month August, when Sean & Anna with little Olivia arrive for Michelle our daughter marrying Michael wedding.

Please do take care dear friend. I shall certainly not forget you and will toast you tonight with a glass or 2 for sure of the good red stuff.

Just wanted to touch base quickly with you. It is 9.30 a.m in London. Ontario and I am sitting in the back yard by the swimming pool still on holidays after my jaunt in South Africa. It’s going to be 32 celsius today and it’s taking me a two weeks to recover from all the work.
But now that I have a minute I just wanted to again thank you for how well you treated me and the professionalism you showed.
You haven’t gotten rid of me because I plan to write occasionally asking advice on South African wine. I actually purchased a cabernet yesterday from our liquor store from Stallenbosch (spelling?) winery. The South African wine section is now the first one I go to when I purchase wine.

Hope you are well and that your new grandchild is growing and healthy.

we’ll talk again.

Hi Brian,

It is wonderful to hear from you. I am actually about six hours from embarking on my trip back to Canada. We have an 11 hour flight to Amsterdam and then another seven hours to Toronto. I then take a shuttle for two hours to London.

Congratulations on being grandparents. I can’t imagine how exciting that must be. Family is a wonderful thing and never despair about when you may see her because the world is a funny place and it may be sooner than you think.

I leave here with mixed emotions. It was a difficult time when it came to all the work and travel, by far the most difficult assignment I’ve had.
But the people and the experiences were phenomenal. Meeting people like you made the trip worthwhile.
Robben Island and Cape Point will remain with me for years and I will certainly be able to tell anyone that asks me about the value of travel to South Africa, that is a trip well worth making.
I look forward to seeing my family but I also feel I have left so much undone here.

The wine was wonderful. Just the kind of memory of South African wine I want. It’s the kind of wine that you can have with dinner or simply sip with company. It would be wonderful to be able to have a case sent to Canada but the taxes and duty would make the cost prohibitive.

Thank you so much. I will take a card with me should any of my friends decide to visit Cape Town. As I said, the world is a funny place and one never knows when we will meet again. If I ever need any information on wine or touring, you will be hearing from me.

I wish you and your family nothing but success, happiness and good health. To borrow from an old Irish blessing, may the sun always be on you face and a gentle breeze at your back.

Great to hear that the book finally arrived. I started to get a bit worried. I am hoping and wishing that we will come back to Cape Town as it is by far the best holiday place I have been to (could also imagine to live there for some years). Thank you again for making the stay so special. As I think we told you during our stay, Anne applied for a post within UNHCR in Malawi. In the end she got it and she left almost two weeks ago. I will go to Malawi and visit her in three weeks. I am very excited. The place where Anne is, is called Mwanza. Basically it is a ….nothing, well I suppose the correct term would be village so we’ll see how it is…

How are business going now? I keep telling people that Cape Town is the place to go to…
